The Crab Apple Ritual: Part 2

Welcome to the first episode of Daisy’s Wild Gourmet Cooking Show in my off-grid kitchen – no fridge, no freezer, no stove, no propane hot water tank, no handy garburator and definitely no awesome dishwasher, just one wood stove and a heck of a lot of chopping firewood.  Getting use to or perhaps dealing with my kitchen setup, takes awhile for visitors. I bought a little camping cook stove for my Mother who needs her morning coffee sooner than 2 hours, the time it takes for me to light a fire, get the wood stove hot, boil water and hand press her coffee.  She also brings along a cooler for her cream, which doesn’t last too long in my underground vented boxes.  My kitchen can be best defined as the “sit back and enjoy the view” while the wait-time creeps along.  During community potlucks, I’m often excluded from bringing anything, especially pizza for pool nights, unless it’s a salad from my garden or the usual Fall harvested squash I miraculously cook properly, in the coals of the wood stove. (And no, my dream of a swimming pool has not come true…yet.  My neighbors, Al and Yvonne have perhaps the next best thing; a pool table.)

One thing I do have are some amazing wild recipes, from both ends of the spectrum – from easily harvested wild foods to the rare and rather brave delicacies and all the way to the straight up, unmentionable cuisine, that surprisingly tastes delicious.  Presentation is Everything!

This video will be all you need to have a whole new appreciation for not only electricity, but your stove!
